I live in Petaluma, but decided to travel to San Anselmo to take my 8 month old goldendoodle here for his first grooming. It was a wonderful experience! My dog was very scared to go in, but Peter helped my dog (and me) to feel welcome and comfortable! When I picked him up, he was running around with the other dogs and having a great time. My dog is fussy about her feet being groomed and nails clipped; they did a great job on her feet and nails. "Best price, best service, safe, friendly, clean just wow and amazing. I just got my first dog Blu (originally Blue but I renamed him;). He has black nails and I called many places that either didn't offer the trim, or charged $50 to do the trim. So a friend mentioned House of Dog. I called and at this point was fed up with trying and his long nails that were scratching my floors and body.I called them and so sweet on the phone, I didn't even know people came stocked that's way. They then said they didn't just do trims but had to wash, clean ears, trim paws?, and would cut his nails. I was so fed up In my journey at this point and was like whatever even though I didn't need any of that (I thought) and was scared it was going to cost me $$$. I said F it and took him their today. It was the same price as people were quoting me for just his nails! Then plus they took care of him for a couple hours giving me a chance to breath from this new rescue, got a soft boy back so cute and cuddly.On top of that they have a doggy play area while they are waiting, staff that are having a ball with big dog loving hearts. "We have taken our Labradoodle to House Of Dog since she was a pup and now she is almost 8. Does she love gong there? NO. But, we have had lots of dogs who needed grooming over the years and none of them loved it and that was with a different groomer. Stella, however, would much rather be playing or romping at the beach than than being bathed and trimmed. She shakes all over even when given a bath at home. Lisa and her employees do a fabulous job on our dog. She comes away knowing that's she's beautiful. I have read a lot of these negatve reviews and would like to recommend that some of these folks try doing the job of a groomer for a day!! This is hard work for very little money. We should all be grateful that there are people in Marin that want to do it. And, if they aren't always perfect or in a good mood try smiling and saying thank you!That's my WOOF for the day."

Prior to finding this gem, I tried several other places in Marin with results ranging from disappointment to barely adequate. House of Dog continues to be my ideal groomer. Local, caring, reliable, and the best cut around, adjusted not only for the season, but specific to individual pet. ...and tooth brushing! After reading some of the negative reviews, sounds like their dogs would be better off with a mobile grooming service that comes to them. It is too bad Yelp doesn't offer a way to question or thumb down reviews. It is suspicious when someone complains about a crate when H.O.D. doesn't ever use them. It continues to be welcoming and an indicator of environment is staff have a low turnover rate for this kind of business. It is also a measure of their continuing success that they are expanding. I have never heard Lisa be rude. She is always direct and efficient, not wasting my time with blather and allowing her to get back to her focus on her furry clients. I know her priority is my dog and not me, which is exactly as I wish."

"I have been very pleased with House of Dog. Lisa knows how to groom Wheaten Terriers and my dog has never had a better cut than the one she got here. Prior to finding House of Dog I had been to groomers in both Larkspur and Mill Valley where my dog came back with fleas, looking like a Pomeranian, and still matted. One of these groomers even argued with me about how matted my dog was even though I had combed through every matted spot the day before bringing her in and I had told the groomer this upfront. The grooming at House of Dog was the best my dog has ever gotten. She was soft, clean, COMPLETELY dematted, and actually looked like a Wheaten after the grooming. The fact is, we take our dog to the beach every week, we wash and brush her frequently, but she is a dog who loves to play outside, get dirty and run around and she gets matted. I had an honest conversation with Lisa about my dog before bringing her in and as a result, expectations were set clearly. I was not surprised to get charged a little extra for some dematting on my last visit. The total cost of the visit was no more than any other place I have been to for my dog. If you are communicative with the dog groomer and both of you have reasonable expectations about what is entailed it will be a good experience for everyone. I don't like that my dog stays there all day, but House of Dog has as good a setup as possible, and all groomers work this way. At least my dog is not kept in a crate for hours and unlike other dog groomers, House of Dog takes the dogs outside to relieve themselves. I highly recommend House of Dog for dog grooming."

"I tried House of Dog for the first time today. I have a little 10lb. terrier mix that I adopted from Milo. She doesn't need hair cuts, so I can't speak to that. I can say however, that my little pooch came back to me clean and beautiful as ever. I LOVE that this salon is fully transparent--It's one big room. You can see the ENTIRE facility from the front desk. It made me feel like I could trust the staff, since they are right out there for everyone to see. The owner seems very confident and knowledgeable with dogs, and she and her staff were all nice people. And I like that you don't need an appointment. "The best groomer in Marin! I have taken my dogs to Lisa, the owner, for over 20 years and I have never been disappointed. Whether they needed a trim or a full grooming they look and feel great! When my dogs come home from a Beauty Bath they get the complete undercoat removal so that the undercoat stays at the groomers and not in my house. That is important to me because this is not always the case. They are warm and friendly to my pets and I. My dogs always want to run in. I can't say enough about House of dog! "Fantastic in every way! I have tried several in Marin over the past 12 years and, hands down, Lisa is the best! She just moved into a wonderful dog friendly salon in downtown San Anselmo about a month ago. I waited as she made the move from downtown San Rafael and what a wonderful place! It is really the best of indoors and outdoors, with a large open air counter for drop off. My 12 year old Pom is a bit fussy, but is completely at home in this wonderful environment. A completely new approach to housing the dogs while they wait. No cages! Each has it's own little stall and I have never heard a yelp (!) while there. Just wonderful people, expert grooming, and I could not ask for more. If you have been "around the block" with your dog looking for the perfect place, look no further! All the employees are super nice, the end results are excellent and my little Lola is very happy with the experience. She used to shake when we got near a few of the other places we tried, so this is certainly my best indicator. If I could give them 6 stars, I certainly would! I absolutely guarantee that you will be thrilled! I cannot imagine anyone not loving "House of Dog"!"
